Switchable Transverse Conveyor,
Suitable for Transporting in 2 Directions
This type of conveyor comes mainly into its own, when profile material has to be moved from one roller conveyor (as for example after the sawing process) buffered and then transferred to the roller conveyor towards the drill machine. As this would never happen at the time same, the transverse conveyor has to have a continuous positioning surface. The carrier device must be structured so that it can transfer from one roller conveyor to another without disturbing the material.
1. Switching over to the transverse conveyors
In this case the carrier catch hooks bear notches, to ensure that the carriers are lowered. When the carrier trolley reaches its end position, the hook is dropped for the empty transfer back and raised again at the other end.
Disadvantage: A large number of empty movements due to the end positioning.
2. Transverse conveyors with radio-controlled switchable carriers
A sprung carrier catch hook is mostly incorporated into the carrier for each direction of movement. Additional cable rollers attached to the carriers tip the carrier downwards by tightening a cable attached to the carriers. This action is pneumatically controlled and thus permits the carrier to be lowered at any desired location. If the pneumatic cylinders are switched in groups, shorter profile materials can be placed on the transverse conveyor line one after another. The carrier carriages are moved via roller chains and continuous drive shafts. Use of slip couplings avoids overloading the chains and drives.
Noise insulation is achieved by using a continuous surface made of one support profile, an elastic intermediate layer and an upper surface strip of high durability steel.
These transverse conveyors are especially suitable in manufacturing profiled materials in the buffer process and when operating two roller conveyors. They have been successfully deployed very successfully in raw steel construction plants. The carrier surface made of steel ensures that they are eminently suitable for welding stations providing all health and safety regulations are observed.
3. Carrier Carriages
Transverse conveyors are extremely suitable for lightweight profile materials, if the tracks of the carriers and attached to crank levers and are moved in parallel formation up or down using pneumatic cylinders on a circular track. The carriers on the individual conveyor elements move lengthways in a synchronised way controlled by a continuous drive shaft and continuous roller chains. When the line is raised or lowered, the carriers are brought into transport position or lowered.
These transverse carriers can thus be deployed technically in the same way as the carriers shown in Item 2.
